The Staten Island FerryHawks ended a nine-game losing skein by scoring three runs in their last two at-bats to break a 5-5 tie and beat the York Revolution, 8-5, in Atlantic League action Wednesday night at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in St. George.

The FerryHawks, behind a 12-hit attack in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 921 on Snug Harbor Little League Night at the ballpark, improved to 6-22, while York fell to 10-19.

Javier Betancourt led the hit parade by going 3 for 3 with and RBI. Kacy Clemens was 2 for 5 with three RBI. Mariel Bautista (2 for 2, 2 RBI) and Al Reyes (2 for 5) also contributed on a night the team wore its District 24 jerseys in recognition of the Island’s Little Leagues.

Tied at 5, the Island club pushed across two runs in the home seventh on Clemens’ two-run single. The FerryHawks added an insurance run in the eighth on Rymer Liriano’s bases-loaded walk.

Connor Law, the third of five hurlers used by Staten Island, picked up his first win of the season with two near-perfect innings. Chris Nunn, who pitched the ninth, nailed down his first save of 2022.

The FerryHawks trailed 2-0 before surging ahead 5-2 only to see York tie the game in the top of the fifth.
