The search continues for a missing 81-year-old High Point resident, Heddie Dawkins who was last seen Wednesday morning.

High Point police said Dawkins was last seen Wednesday morning around 1:30 a.m. They said she was last seen in the area of Blockhouse Court. She was wearing blue pajamas and slippers.

She was last seen in a photo from a doorbell camera early in the morning. Police said they believe she tried to get back into her home. They said she also had blood on her face and she could be injured.

"Because the fact she’s been gone for so long, that obviously raises that concern so we’re looking to get to her to provide that assistance that she needs," said High Point Police captain Patrick O'Toole.

Other agencies helping to search for her include the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, Guilford County EMS, High Point Fire Department and NCSHP.

High Point Police Chief Travis Stroud said that they're having such a large search crew because she has dementia and is part of a vulnerable population.

It's not just crews but family, friends and some who didn’t even know Dawkins who have been out searching for her in the woods near the Piedmont Environmental Center.

“I just felt like she’s everybody’s grandma so we’re just out here trying to look for her, just want her to come home safe to her family," Louise Kindle, a family friend said.

ATVs, drones, kayaks, bikes, and officers with dogs have all been used to help locate Dawkins.

Police ask if you live in the Blockhouse Court area, to check your ring and porch cameras.

“One of the things we are really hoping is if you live in this area, to review of any security footage you may have on cameras, Ring doorbell cameras," O'Toole said.

Police are also asking those who live in the neighborhoods around Blockhouse Court to check any unlocked storage buildings or fenced-in back patio areas.

"Our crews are continuing to search neighborhoods but it’s possible Ms. Dawkins may have found an unlocked building/gate and wandered inside. We would appreciate extra eyes in these areas," a spokesperson with the High Point Police Department said.

Family friends are also asking anyone to help.

“I know if it was my family member I would want anybody, everybody that has time and opportunity to come search,” Nicole Mckinney, a friend of the family said.

"The more people, the better," Kindle said.

High Point Police Chief Travis Stroud said in a Thursday 3:30 p.m. briefing that they're not going to give up hope on her search but plan on scaling back crews somewhat.

Anyone with information on Dawkins' whereabouts are asked to call the High Point Police Department.
