It has been nearly three years since Cleveland/Srixon/XXIO announced their exclusive partnership with Asics to help bring new golf shoes to the North American market. We have seen several pairs of Asics golf shoes hit the marketplace through this affiliation, and as to be expected, they all have looked very similar to what one might find when searching for a new pair of running shoes. In reality, this should come as no surprise, seeing as Asics makes some of the best running shoes in the world. That changes today as Asics releases the GEL-ACE PRO M golf shoe, which bucks the athletic style in favor of a more classic golf shoe.
“These GEL-ACE PRO M golf shoes are tremendous in providing a solid foundation for my swing,” said Srixon staffer and major champion Hideki Matsuyama. “The comfort and support are unmatched and have played a pivotal part in my success out on Tour.”
Just because the GEL-ACE PRO M look more like a tour shoe doesn’t mean that it doesn’t benefit from the feel and stability associated with Asics. An X-Shaped TPU Trusstic stretches from the rearfoot to the forefoot, which helps add support throughout the golf swing. Asics FlyteFoam is also present to help provide lightweight shock absorption, while the Flex Groove allows for some flexibility on the sole. These factors work along with ASICS GEL to make the GEL-ACE PRO M a shoe that will provide plenty of comfort out on the course.
Asics has gone with soft synthetic leather for the upper part of the shoe. This material will help provide waterproofing to keep your feet dry on rainy days. At this time, I do not see any mention of a yearly waterproof guarantee, but I would anticipate these to be rated in that one to two-year period.
Even though the GEL-ACE Pro M shoes are the headline today, Asics has also snuck in two updated colorways for the GEL-COURSE DUO BOA shoes. I have come to expect color combo’s that pop when talking Asics shoes, and while that is not the case with the new white/black and black/black options, I think that these options fit in well with the three current colors. As with the GEL-ACE Pro M shoes, these new color options for the GEL-COURSE DUO BOA golf shoes are available today.
Golfers who have been clamoring for a golf shoe similar to those of Hideki Matsuyama, should be pretty excited with the release of the new GEL-ACE PRO M. As part of the initial release, there are only two color options for the PRO M, White/Black and Black/Pure Silver. Hopefully, Asics will add some extra colors as they have done today with the GEL-COURSE DUO BOA.

I bought the first iteration of this partnership three yrs ago, wore them twice, and for me, they were comfortable but not stable. Too much cushion. Surprised they called it a golf shoe.
The Pro-M looks stable yet comfortable. May give them a try.
The Boa reminds me of previous versions – have doubts as to the stability.
I think I mentioned this in another Asics thread, but I wore their sneakers for years before moving away earlier this year due to disappointment with the build quality. But let me tell you, now that I’m in New Balance I very much miss the arch support Asics have always had. That factor alone makes me want to not only go back to them for my sneakers, but also in consideration when I finally retire my current Nike spikes.
The looks of them are just a miss for me unfortunately. I prefer something brighter color wise. Weirdly, white or black are probably the colors I am least likely to buy. The previous colors on the Asics (White/Grey/Yellow, or Grey/Black) were a bit more out there, and I liked it.
Is the market out there for the more classic look? Or is it a segment of the market that consumers have their one brand of shoes and will not stray from them?
and honestly makes it seem like it’s for another sport. I’m a pretty stable and coordinated guy, but these pictures really make me wonder about swinging in them with where I put pressure in my feet during it. Odd.
Let us know if you do!
As mentioned, the upper is kinda shaped to follow the inside of the arch, so they do sort of have a high heel arched look on the inside. I think they look good from the outside though. The black sole contrasts a bit with the start white leather which I’m not used to, but it’s probably better when I’m not in my kitchen and there’s dark grass next to the sole.
They feel stable. The top of the foot opening (not sure the proper term) is lower than my sneakers and my old golf shoes. My old golf shoes were a gift that I should have returned and these are a much better fit. The top of the tongue hits my ankle a bit, had to adjust my socks. No biggie.
Quality feels good. They aren’t heavy but feel substantial if you know what I mean. They do feel like they could use with a bit of breaking in, mostly below the laces/ on top of the toes where they bend when walking. Firm insoles, which I prefer to sinking into a cloud.
I think I’m going to keep em.
1) The black soles don’t contrast as much on grass, don’t remember noticing them at all.
2) They retain a bunch of heat, though maybe it’s just me coming from a more mesh-y shoe to a leathery one.
